Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expressed the state’s readiness to become a global player in the financial and economic arena. Governor Sanwo-Olu made this statement during an interview with journalists in London on Saturday, highlighting Lagos’ participation in the ongoing Lord Mayor’s Show (LMS) as a testament to the state’s upward economic trajectory.
The Lord Mayor’s Show, with a history spanning over 800 years, extended an invitation to Lagos, making it the first city in Africa to be invited by London for participation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu is leveraging this unique opportunity to attract investment to Lagos State. Various business-focused engagements are planned, including visiting city banquets, bilateral meetings with potential investors, and the Lagos Investment dinner, where he will address the theme: “Lagos is open for business.”
Emphasizing the significance of the Lord Mayor’s Show for Lagos State, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the event provides a platform to showcase what Lagos represents, being the epicentre of culture, entertainment, and music in Africa.
“Lagos is the largest city in Africa, boasting the biggest sub-national economy on the continent. We aim to elevate it to the status of an international financial centre. Events like these, where we compete with other major cities and nations, allow us to narrate our story. This is our time to share our narrative with the world, and I am leading from the front,” affirmed the governor.
He continued, “Lagos is poised to make a mark in the global financial and economic landscape. Being part of the Lord Mayor’s Show is a historic moment for us. We are the first state from Africa to participate, marking Nigeria’s debut at the Lord Mayor Show. This is an opportune time, and we are committed to making the most of it.
“We want to showcase who we are to the world — the centre of culture, entertainment, and music in Africa. It’s a chance for the world to understand what Lagos has to offer,” he concluded with enthusiasm.
